What Happened on this Day in LDS Church History?
On this day in 1963, in Laie, Hawaii, on the Island of Oahu, the Polynesian Cultural Center was dedicated by President Hugh B. Brown of the First Presidency. The Polynesian Cultural Center is owned and operated by the church. Students from all over the Pacific who come to attend BYU Hawaii can work at the Cultural Center. This can cover their college and living expenses. Students also share their beliefs, preserve and share their culture. The Polynesian Cultural Center has made it possible for many Polynesian students to go to college, who would not have otherwise had the opportunity. The Cultural Center is also a major tourist stop on Oahu, which has served as a door to missionary work and goodwill.
