What Happened on this Day in LDS Church History?
On this day in 1926, Chieko Nishimura (Okazaki) was born in Kohala, Hawaii.  She later became the first female non-caucasian General church auxiliary officer. She served as first counselor to Elaine Jack, twelfth President of the Relief Society, from 1990-1997. Chieko was raised Buddhist and converted to the church when she was 15 years old.  She had been an educator and an elementary school principal before being called to serve in the General Relief Society Presidency.
