What Happened on this Day in LDS Church History?
On this day in 1793, John Portineus Greene (also known as John P. Greene) was born in Herkimer County, New York. He grew up and became a Methodist Minister. He bought a Book of Mormon from a missionary on his first mission, Samuel Harrison Smith (the younger brother of the prophet, Joseph Smith). He joined the church in April 1832. John P. Greene was married to Rhoda Young, sister of Brigham Young. The Book of Mormon that Samuel left was responsible for the conversion of John, his wife, his wife's family (including Brigham), and Heber C. Kimball.
