What Happened on this day in LDS Church History?
On this day in 1857, Brigham Young declares martial law in the Utah Territory to prevent Johnston's Army from entering the Salt Lake Valley. Brigham Young was the Territorial Governor and had discovered the President Buchanan sent Johnston's army to quell the alleged Utah Rebellion. Later, this event became known as Buchanan's Blunder.
