What Happened On This Day In LDS Church History? On this day in LDS Church History, in 1836, Joseph Smith Jr received the vision of the Celestial Kingdom, which became Doctrine and Covenants 137.This vision took place in the Kirtland Temple. In this vision Joseph saw his brother Alvin, who had died before the restoration of the Gospel.
