Creation Zones of Cleaning

This is my deep cleaning creation zone plan!

Each zone is worked from the top down for as many days as it takes. Some zones go quickly, while others like the kitchen can take a few weeks. How much time each day? The zone can be done in as little as 15 minutes if that is all you have. If you have an hour a day, you will finish faster. For some, a drawer may be all they can do each day. Some have less time on some days and more time on others. That is fine. The key is consistency and continuing to pick up where you left off. Consider the purpose of the room. Are there things in the room that do not serve that purpose? Do things in the room need reassessment and sorting? Are there things that have lost their usefulness to you, but could be a blessing to others? Perhaps now is a good time to share the blessing. When was the last time this room was inventoried? Do you have pictures of valuables? Now, while cleaning that room, is a good time to make an inventory record of belongings in that room.

Zone One—The Sanctuary

Master bedroom and bedrooms are Zone One. Why start here? We need a place of sanctuary that is non-oppressive. A place where rest can happen and where we can feel invigorated by its beauty when we arise to start the day!

Zone Two—Creative Work

Workshop, Art Studio, Office are Zone Two. We need the creative areas in order, because it is there we create solutions, fix, and mend things. If they are not in order, things found needing attention while doing the zones, will just pile up. However,  if tools are easy to find and the work space available, it often only takes a few minutes to fix something and avoid a pile up.

Zone Three—Lumber Rooms

The under the stairs Mechanical Room, the Larder, Closets, Drawers, and storage shelf areas are Zone Three. What do I mean by lumber rooms? Lumber rooms are where things are stored when not in use. We need to clean out the lumber rooms of things that no longer matter, so that seasonal things can be moved there and out of crowding other rooms.
What is a Mechanical room?  The room were the furnace, water heater, and water softener (ionic exchange unit) are kept is the Mechanical room.
What is a Larder? A larder is a cool room (
such as a pantry) for storing food.

Zone Four—Curb Appeal

Entrance and foyer, as Zone Four.  What is the curb appeal? What do people see coming to the front door, is it inviting?

Zone Five—Living Rooms

Then the living room and family room are Zone Five. This is our main area to read in, discuss as a family, and entertain quests.

Zone Six—Sustenance Rooms

Then the dining room and kitchen as Zone Six. The kitchen and dining areas are places to gain sustenance.

Zone Seven—Necessity Rooms

Bathrooms are Zone Seven. Bathrooms are places of necessity to freshen up ourselves.
