What Happened on this Day in LDS Church History? On this Day in LDS Church History in 1832, Joseph Smith Jr. and Sidney Rigdon were tarred and feathered by a mob of 50 men in Hiram, Ohio. Joseph Smith had been caring for his son Joseph, who was sick with the measles when the mob took Joseph from the Johnson home. Little Joseph died within days due to complications resulting from exposure to cold, the night of the tar and feathering of his father.Links to Further Study
