What Happened on this Day in LDS Church History?
On this day in 1856, the Willie Handcart Company arrives in Salt Lake. They had been the fourth company of handcart pioneers to cross the plains. They lost about 20% of the people on the plains due to starvation and exposure to the elements. When Brigham Young discovered they were out on the plains in the snow and starving, he sent men to rescue the company.
