What happened On This Day In LDS Church History? On this day in LDS Church history, in 1836, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery pray in the newly dedicated Kirtland Temple.  Jesus Christ, Moses, Elias and Elijah appear in the temple to Joseph Smith Jr. and Oliver Cowdery.
