On this day in LDS Church History, in 1833, Wilford Woodruff was baptized by Zerah Pulsipher, in an icy stream near Richland, New York.
"Three days later, after carefully searching the Book of Mormon, he was baptized on 31 December 1833. He wrote: 'The snow was about three feet deep, the day was cold, and the water was mixed with ice and snow, yet I did not feel cold.' ”

On this day in LDS Church History, in 1833, Wilford Woodruff attended his first Latter-day Saint meeting. The meeting was in Richland, Oswego, New York, there was a full congregation there, and Zerah Pulsipher preached the Gospel. The Spirit of God bare witnessed to Wilford Woodruff that Zerah was a servant of God.

On this day in LDS Church History, in 1832, in the Kanesville log Tabernacle (located where Council Bluffs is located today), Brigham Young is unanimously sustained the second president of the church, along with his counselors, Heber C. Kimball and Willard Richards. There were about 1000 Saints present.

On this day in LDS Church History in 1852, in Washington D.C., Elder Orson Pratt publishes the first issue of the church newspaper, "The Seer." While at first this publication was sanctioned by the leaders of the church, by 1865 Orson published some material that was not sanctioned by a majority of the first Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve.

On this day in LDS Church history in 1831, the church purchases under 64 acres of the Temple lot in Independence, Missouri for $130 from Jones H. Flournoy.

 



LDS Visitor's Center built on a portion of the in Independence, Missouri. 

"Edward Partridge purchased 63.43 acres from Jones Hoy Flournoy on 19 December 1831. This included the ground previously dedicated for the temple site. On 25 June 1833 the Prophet sent this plat to the brethren in Missouri."

What Happened on this day in LDS Church History? On this Day in LDS Church History in Ghana, Africa in 1978, the first LDS missionaries arrive. Two senior missionary couples were sent to Ghana to open the mission: Elder and Sister Rendell N. Mabey, and Elder and Sister Edwin Q. Cannon, Jr. Soon they baptized eighty-nine people who had been waiting for the church to send missionaries. Some had been waiting many, many years for missionaries. Over 400 new members were baptized that first year. Ghana received a temple in Accra, in 2003!
