In April of this year, I gave several presentations at the LDSOHEA Conference in Oregon. One of those presentations was about home management and training children to work.
One thing I have noticed over the years is that too many mothers want a quick fix solution, a silver bullet. They want their children to hurry, grow up an be independent in doing assigned tasks, so mom can do her own thing. Parents are not really wanting their children to be independent though, they just want the child to independently carry out domestic work, school work or other assignments.
There are no silver bullets or easy quick fixes with enduring results. Child rearing takes time and lots of it. Many mothers seem to not be able to delay their own gratification and stick with working with their children until they have developed good, solid habits. Some do not realize the lack of structure in their personal life and example is spilling over to their children. Some do not realize the foods their children are eating and the distractions they have permitted in their home are delaying their children's spiritual, emotional, and academic development. To suggest such a thing usually causes defenses to rise.
There are so many things to consider that are not apparent at a glance.
