This earth was created by God and
all things denote there is a God. This is God's first classic and
through its workings we can see God's hand and learn eternal laws. The
door to our Father's study can always opened by us. It is easy to
introduce and integrate science, art, and literature into your
homeschool curriculum through nature journaling.
Do you find the idea of studying
science intimidating? Did you have a distasteful experience in school,
turning you off to natural science? Homeschooler, have your friends
asked the "What about science" question? Most people believe the myth
that science can only be taught and learned in the classroom, with
textbooks, using expensive equipment, and taught by an college trained
and certified licensed science teacher. Not even close to the truth.
Most great scientists and inventors of the past were not textbook
trained by certified teachers.
The pathway to a solid foundation in
science is as close as your own front door. Our methods are natural
and not difficult to learn or implement:
Have you ever looked at a blank page
and had writer's block? That can happen in journaling too. I have
created a book mark with 15 Prompts to help you consider what to write.
First, I want to talk about the prompts on the bookmark.
"Get a notebook, my young folks,
a journal that will last through all time, and maybe the angels may
quote from it for eternity. Begin today and write in it your goings and
comings, your deepest thoughts, your achievements and your failures,
your associations and your triumphs, your impressions and your
testimonies." (New Era, Oct. 1975, 5). —President Spencer W. Kimball The Lord has asked us through the prophets to keep a journal. Faith in God, Duty to God, and Personal Progress, all have journaling components. There are online ways to keep a journal.
However, I do like the book idea better.
I find journal writing naturally
develops the discipline of writing habit and gives daily penmanship.
The
Hebrew word for create, bara, in the Genesis story of the creation,
means to prepare, form, fashion, organize! So, when I plan my life, I
am being a creator, tapping into my creative abilities. Those
abilities are part of my spiritual DNA. So, yes, when I am organizing, I
am being creative and I am making space and time for my creativity,
by establishing a default rhythms in my home.
